2. Overview

This policy explains which personal data is processed when you visit bumblecrawl.com and download the BumbleCrawl desktop app, and what the app itself does with data, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG).

This website has no user accounts and no contact forms. You can read it and download the app without telling us who you are. Purchases of BumbleCrawl Pro are handled by Freemius (section 6).

3. Hosting and server logs

This website runs on rented servers of a hosting provider that processes data on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).

When you open a page, your browser sends technical data that the server needs to deliver it: IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, browser and operating system. This data may be recorded in server log files to keep the site running and secure, based on our legitimate interest in a stable, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). It is not combined with other data sources.

Log files are deleted after a short period unless they are needed to investigate an attack.

Fonts are served from our own server; your browser does not contact Google Fonts or any other font service.

4. Cookies and Advertising

4.1 Necessary

Your browser stores your cookie choice and your colour theme (light, dark or system) in its local storage. Nothing of this is sent to us. This storage is strictly necessary to provide the functions you asked for (§ 25(2) TDDDG).

4.2 Advertising (only with your consent)

We advertise BumbleCrawl on Google and on Facebook and Instagram. To see which ads bring people to us, and to show our ads to people who have visited before, we use the tools below. They load only after you agree to them in our cookie banner (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG); without consent, no ad script is loaded and nothing is sent. They receive your IP address, browser and device details, the pages you visit here, the ad you came from, and these events: a click on a download button (platform, app version, position of the button), opening the checkout, and completing a purchase (price, currency and order number). They do not receive your name, your email address or payment details.

  • Google Ads (conversion tracking and remarketing): Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Sets cookies such as _gcl_au for up to 90 days. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Google's privacy policy
  • Meta Pixel: Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland. Sets cookies such as _fbp for up to 90 days. We and Meta are joint controllers for collecting and transmitting this data (Art. 26 GDPR, Controller Addendum); Meta alone is responsible for what it does with it afterwards. Data may be transferred to Meta Platforms, Inc. in the USA, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Meta's privacy policy

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time, with effect for the future, through the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing deletes the cookies these tools set on our domain.

5. Downloads via GitHub

The app's installers are hosted on GitHub, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P Kelly Jr Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you click a download button, your browser is redirected to GitHub and downloads the file from there. GitHub then receives your IP address, browser details, the time of the download and the file requested. We use GitHub for distribution based on our legitimate interest in delivering the app reliably and quickly worldwide (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

GitHub may process this data in the USA. GitHub's privacy statement.

To show the current version, file sizes and release notes, our server queries GitHub's public API in the background. These requests come from our server, not from your browser, and contain no data about you.

6. Purchases via Freemius

BumbleCrawl Pro is sold by Freemius, Inc. as merchant of record (reseller). When you buy Pro, the checkout window on our pricing page (or the hosted checkout page it falls back to) is provided by Freemius, and you enter into the purchase with Freemius. Freemius processes your name, email address, billing address, payment details, IP address and country to handle the payment, calculate and charge VAT or sales tax, send your invoice and licence key, and prevent fraud. We receive the order details (name, email address, country, licence and order data) to provide the licence and support, but never your full payment details. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and legal obligations such as tax records (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).

Freemius is based in the USA, so your data may be processed there. Freemius' privacy policy.

Licence activation in the app: when you activate Pro, the app sends your licence key and an anonymous device ID to Freemius' API to validate the licence and count it towards your activations. The app re-checks the licence about every 6 hours while it runs. No crawl data is sent. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

7. The BumbleCrawl app

BumbleCrawl runs on your computer. The websites you crawl, the crawl results and your settings are stored as local files on your device. They are not uploaded to us, and we have no access to them. The app has no user account.

  • Crawling: the app requests the pages of the sites you choose directly from those sites, from your computer and your IP address.
  • Google sign-in: when you connect Google Search Console or Google Analytics, you sign in with Google in your browser and the app exchanges data directly with Google. The access tokens are stored encrypted on your computer. We do not receive your Google data or tokens. Google's processing is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy.
  • Chrome UX Report and other APIs: if you add an API key for a third-party service in the app, the app sends the URLs to be checked directly to that service. The key is stored encrypted on your computer.
  • Updates: the app checks GitHub for new versions and downloads updates from there (see section 5). This transmits your IP address and the app version to GitHub.
  • Licence check (Pro only): the licence key and an anonymous device ID are sent to Freemius (see section 6).
  • AI assistants (MCP): the built-in MCP server runs locally. If you connect an AI assistant, the crawl data you let it read is processed by that assistant's provider under their terms.

The app does not send usage statistics or telemetry to us.

8. Contacting us

If you email us, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete it once it is dealt with, unless legal retention periods apply.

9. Your rights under the GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15): request a copy of your personal data
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16): correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17): request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to restriction (Art. 18): restrict processing of your data
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20): receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Right to object (Art. 21): object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7(3)): withdraw consent at any time, with effect for the future

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@bumblecrawl.com.

10. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The competent authority for us is:

Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg
Lautenschlagerstraße 20
70173 Stuttgart
Germany
Website: www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de

11. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the website, the app or the law changes. The current version is always available on this page.
